Pune, May 24: In a significant operation conducted on Saturday night, Pune police made a major breakthrough in the Wednesday Peth area. Following the directives of the Police Commissioner, a joint team from Faraskhana and Khadak police stations raided the Sagar Building in Wednesday Peth and detained six Bangladeshi women who were illegally residing in India.
The operation was based on confidential information received by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Krishikesh Rawale. Legal proceedings against all the detained women are currently underway.
During interrogation, the women revealed to the police that they were lured to India with promises of jobs in beauty parlours, tailoring, and domestic work. However, upon arriving in Wednesday Peth, they voluntarily engaged in prostitution. The police are now investigating who brought these women to India, how they crossed the border, and how they obtained their documents.
The detained women have been identified as Kalpana Kamal Sheikh (38), Rani Rafiq Sheikh (42), Lucky Haleng Mandal (40), Pooja Rafiq Sheikh (20), Ruma Jani Sheikh (30), and Nishi Shahjahan Dhali (29), all hailing from Bangladesh.
According to the police, all the women were involved in prostitution while residing in different buildings in the Wednesday Peth area.
Notably, DCP Zone-1 Krishikesh Rawale has been running a strict campaign against illegal Bangladeshi nationals since taking office. In the past 11 months, a total of 103 illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended and deported. This operation is reported to be part of his personal target campaign, which he has successfully completed within a year.
