New Delhi, May 25: Delhi Police‘s South District personnel have dismantled a well-organized inter-state liquor smuggling gang active between Delhi, Gurugram, and Bengaluru. Approximately ₹1.5 crore worth of illegal liquor was seized, and three smugglers were arrested during the operation.
According to the police, this action was taken following a series of incidents related to liquor smuggling. The team from Mehrauli Police Station conducted continuous surveillance, patrolling, and intelligence gathering in the area.
A special team was formed to identify and apprehend the liquor traffickers operating under the jurisdiction of Mehrauli Police Station. On May 18, during a routine patrol in the Mehrauli area, the police stopped a tempo driven by accused Akhilesh Kumar Singh. During the investigation, 63 boxes of illegal liquor were found loaded in the vehicle.
The illegal liquor and the vehicle were immediately seized, and legal action was initiated. During extensive questioning, Akhilesh Kumar Singh revealed that he was delivering illegal liquor to Okhla Railway Station for co-accused Upendra Singh and his son Ankit Singh in exchange for money.
Based on the information provided by the accused, police raided the residences of Upendra Singh and Ankit Singh in Rajpur Khurd village, Delhi. During the raid, an additional 11 boxes of illegal liquor were recovered, and both suspects were arrested on the spot.
Further inquiries revealed that the accused were purchasing illegal liquor from Gurugram resident Mohit and transporting the consignments to the railway parcel booking point via the seized tempo. The shipments were allegedly sent to Bengaluru disguised as commercial goods.
Upon the accused’s direction, six more boxes of illegal liquor were recovered from a car that was also seized in the case. Given the inter-state nature of the gang, a special police team was immediately dispatched to Bengaluru. In a swift and coordinated operation, the team recovered 74 boxes containing approximately 1,118 bottles of illegal liquor from a train at Yeshwantpur Railway Station in Bengaluru.
The seized liquor has been handed over to the Karnataka Excise Department, and legal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant sections of the Karnataka Excise Act.
