New Delhi, May 25: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has conducted an initial review of the recent assembly election results, focusing on political, organizational, and ideological factors. The party has expressed deep concern over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory in West Bengal and the strengthening of Hindutva communal forces in society.
In a statement released following the Central Committee meeting held from May 22 to 24 in New Delhi, the party noted that the state committee is gathering opinions at various levels to understand the reasons behind the electoral setbacks in Kerala. These suggestions will be discussed in detail during the upcoming meetings of the state secretariat and state committee scheduled between June 5 and 8 in Thiruvananthapuram, which will also include members of the Politburo. The party stated that corrective measures will be taken to address identified weaknesses.
The CPI(M) also mentioned that feedback will be collected from all units in West Bengal, with the state committee expected to finalize its review by the end of June. A similar review process will be adopted in Tamil Nadu and Assam.
The party viewed its return to the West Bengal assembly positively, noting that a candidate supported by the party won as an independent in Puducherry. The Central Committee expressed gratitude to the voters in all states who supported the party and its allies.
The CPI(M) reaffirmed its commitment to raising public issues, fighting for their rights, and remaining at the forefront against “authoritarian and Hindutva-corporate attacks.” Elected representatives will also raise public concerns in legislative assemblies and continue to oppose alleged anti-people policies.
The party expressed expectations from the newly formed government in Tamil Nadu, stating that the government led by the TVK, under Vijay, would govern in accordance with its promises to uphold the Constitution, federal structure, secularism, and democratic rights.
The Central Committee highlighted a broader trend in the election results indicating the strengthening of Hindutva communal forces and the BJP’s acquisition of power in West Bengal. Despite the BJP securing limited seats in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, its expansion remains a matter of concern.
The CPI(M) stated that the RSS-BJP’s victory in West Bengal and their return to power in Assam is a serious concern for all secular, progressive, and democratic forces. The party assured that it would continue to fight for communal harmony and the protection of public rights.
The Central Committee is set to meet again in the second half of July 2026, where a comprehensive analysis of the election results will be conducted based on the states’ review reports, and steps will be taken to address organizational weaknesses from the top down.
