New Delhi, May 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again launched a strong attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding political violence in West Bengal. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that the murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant of newly elected BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari, was a planned contract killing.
Poonawalla stated that this incident is a direct result of the TMC’s reign of terror, political hatred, vendetta, and violence in West Bengal. He alleged that not only was Suvendu Adhikari’s PA targeted, but BJP worker Rohit Roy was also shot, along with the murders of two to three other party workers.
He further claimed that over 300 BJP workers have been killed by individuals linked to the TMC in the past 10 to 12 years. Poonawalla accused the TMC of institutionalizing political violence.
The BJP spokesperson also referenced a statement by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, who had said, “Your father won’t come to save you from Delhi,” asserting that the current events are a direct consequence of that remark.
Poonawalla asserted that once the BJP forms a government in West Bengal, all those involved in this violence will be identified and held accountable under the law.
Meanwhile, JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar also reacted to the political situation in West Bengal, stating that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should accept the public mandate. He emphasized that while analyzing election results is their right, when a government loses the confidence of the assembly, it also loses the trust of the people. Kumar remarked that while accusations are commonplace, challenging the constitution and remaining obstinate sets a wrong precedent.
