Quetta, May 13: The Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on Pakistani security forces across Balochistan, resulting in the deaths of seven soldiers.
According to local media, BLF spokesperson Major Gwaharim Baloch stated in a press release that on May 10, the group’s fighters ambushed a convoy of the Pakistani army in the Bancha area of the Surab district. He mentioned that the convoy was traveling between military camps when it came under attack from rockets, light machine guns, and other automatic weapons. The group claims that the assault caused significant damage to two army vehicles, killing five soldiers and injuring four others.
Reports from The Balochistan Post indicate that security personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the attack from a nearby post but were forced to retreat following further clashes with BLF fighters.
On the same day, in another attack, the BLF claimed to have targeted a checkpoint of the Pakistan Frontier Corps (FC) located on the main bridge in the Taghazi area of Kharan district. The group asserts that this attack, carried out with rockets, grenade launchers, and automatic weapons, resulted in the deaths of two FC personnel and injuries to three others.
Additionally, the BLF stated that on May 7, its fighters targeted a communication tower equipped with surveillance devices in the Malaar Damb area of Kolwah, shutting it down and setting its associated machinery on fire.
Furthermore, on May 6, BLF fighters intercepted a police Eagle Force patrol team in Mastung, temporarily detaining the officers and seizing one of their Kalashnikov rifles.
In a related development, the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) also claimed responsibility for an attack on electrical infrastructure in the Nasirabad district of Balochistan. BRG spokesperson Dostain Baloch stated that the group’s fighters planted explosives on two electricity transmission towers in the Mirwah area, which supplied power from a high-capacity power plant to Quetta. The explosions completely destroyed two towers and caused significant damage to two others.
The BRG declared that their campaign would continue until “the freedom of Balochistan” is achieved.
These recent incidents come at a time when attacks by Baloch organizations on the Pakistani army and police in Balochistan have been on the rise, resulting in significant casualties and damage.
