DMK to Boycott Indi Alliance Meeting, Accuses Congress of Betrayal

Chennai, June 4: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has decided to boycott the Indi Alliance meeting scheduled for June 8 in New Delhi. The party cited alleged “betrayal” by Congress following the Tamil Nadu assembly elections as the reason for its decision.

DMK stated that it was invited to participate in the Indi Alliance meeting but chose to abstain in respect of the sentiments of its party workers. The party claims that its members are deeply hurt by Congress‘s attitude after the Tamil Nadu elections.

In a statement, DMK reiterated its commitment to upholding democracy, secularism, and states’ rights. The party highlighted its opposition to various issues, including the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), delimitation of constituencies, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the functioning of the Election Commission, the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, amendments to the Waqf Act, and changes to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

DMK mentioned that it has utilized democratic means such as parliamentary debates, interventions in legislative forums, public movements, and legal actions to address these issues.

The party also claimed that it has played a significant role in the formation and functioning of the Indi Alliance, being one of the key pillars of this opposition coalition from the beginning.

DMK President M.K. Stalin has consistently voiced concerns on matters of national importance, and his contributions to the alliance have been acknowledged by other parties.

However, DMK clarified that there is considerable discontent among its workers regarding Congress’s behavior following the Tamil Nadu elections, which cannot be overlooked. This is the primary reason for the decision to not participate in the meeting that includes Congress.

Despite this, DMK affirmed that it will continue to raise its voice on issues of national interest and share its views on significant topics arising within opposition parties and the Indi Alliance.
