New Delhi, May 14: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will embark on an official visit to Sikkim from May 14 to May 16. This visit coincides with the celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood day.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and guidance, the number of accompanying officials, staff, and vehicles has been minimized to the essential level, reflecting the government’s ongoing emphasis on frugality, efficiency, and responsible public spending.
During the statehood day celebrations in Gangtok, Scindia will join Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, who will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various development projects under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, including Sikkim’s flagship organic farming project.
The minister will participate in several programs related to development, tourism, education, and agriculture in Namchi, Ravangla, Yangang, and Gangtok. Activities include visits to Sikkim State University, Temi Tea Garden, Buddha Park, Bhaledunga Skywalk project, and the Nathu La-based NESIDS-OTRI project, along with participation in the statehood day celebrations.
Notably, the Prime Minister has urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption and increase the use of public transport such as metros, carpooling, and electric vehicles. He also emphasized prioritizing domestic travel over foreign trips and gold purchases.
Previously, the number of vehicles in Prime Minister Modi‘s convoy has been significantly reduced, aligning with his appeal for energy conservation. Despite this, all mandatory security measures under SPG protocol remain intact. A video released on Wednesday showed a notably smaller convoy with only a few vehicles included.
