Yoga Program Marks 100-Day Countdown to International Yoga Day

Bengaluru, May 17: As part of the 100-day countdown to International Yoga Day (IDY) 2026, the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (SVYASA), a deemed-to-be university, successfully organized a yoga program on the 36th day of the countdown in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) at the Prashanti Kutiram campus in Jigani, Bengaluru.

On this occasion, Padma Shri Dr. H.R. Nagendra, the founder chancellor of SVYASA, delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the importance of yoga, its scientific dimensions, and its relevance in daily life. He emphasized yoga’s role in promoting holistic health, mental well-being, and inner harmony in contemporary society.

Approximately 650 participants enthusiastically took part in the event, engaging in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) sessions held during the program.

The event also featured a seminar on the theme “Yoga for Health and Knowledge,” focusing on expert lectures centered around the health and mental well-being of youth in today’s digital age.

In the first seminar session titled “Yoga for Youth Health,” Assistant Professor Dr. Balaji R. (Yogathilagam) from the Yoga Therapy School highlighted the transformative role of yoga in promoting holistic health among youth. Integrating modern medical science with traditional yogic knowledge, he described yoga as “a path towards consciousness,” aiding youth in achieving awareness, resilience, emotional balance, and a meaningful life.

Dr. Balaji elaborated on the concept of ‘Salujanan,’ which focuses on the root causes of health and wellness rather than merely addressing diseases. He stressed the importance of strengthening the ‘sense of harmony’ through yogic practices such as asanas, pranayama, relaxation, meditation, and principles of yogic lifestyle. He identified the integration of evidence-based medicine and experiential yoga science as an effective approach to enhance physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being among youth.

The second seminar session, titled “Yoga for Mental Health in the Age of Information Overload,” was presented by Dr. Lata Satish, a technical advisor from Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. She discussed the challenges posed by excessive use of digital media and constant exposure to information, explaining how this information overload leads to stress, anxiety, mental fatigue, and emotional instability in modern life.

Dr. Satish addressed various types of overload affecting individuals today, including sensory overload, cognitive overload, storage overload, task overload, and desire overload. Presenting yoga as a comprehensive system for mental management, she emphasized principles such as Sthiram Sukham (stability and ease), Prana Sanchayam (energy conservation), Shraddha (commitment and faith), and Viveka (discerning knowledge) as essential tools for maintaining mental balance and clarity.

She highlighted the importance of living a conscious life through asanas, breath regulation, diet, self-study, restraint, and mindful sensory engagement. The session concluded with the message that in today’s fast-paced digital world, yoga is an eternal path to transform stress and confusion into clarity, knowledge, and inner peace.

This event is part of nationwide activities being organized in preparation for International Yoga Day 2026, aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of yoga and encouraging its adoption for physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
