Violence Erupts in West Bengal Post-Election, Five Security Personnel Injured

Kolkata, May 6: Violent incidents continue to plague West Bengal following the assembly election results. Late on Tuesday night, significant unrest occurred in the Sandeshkhali area, resulting in injuries to five security personnel, including police and central forces. All injured individuals have been admitted to hospitals for treatment.

According to initial reports, a team was dispatched to the Sandeshkhali area under the Nijjat police station after receiving complaints of intimidation from locals. The team was attacked upon arrival, leading to injuries for three police officers and two personnel from the central forces.

Authorities have stated that police conducted a raid at the scene, recovering socket bombs and detaining several suspects. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

A local woman recounted, “The police came. We don’t know anything. We were inside our home with our family. The police entered our house and took my husband with them. He is innocent. I don’t know why they are taking him…”

Another woman added, “A group of people was roaming around, causing damage and creating chaos. When they saw the police, they all ran in different directions, and suddenly gunfire erupted. We didn’t understand what was happening.”

It is noteworthy that the Sandeshkhali area in West Bengal has been in the spotlight due to allegations of sexual harassment against women, land grabs, and torture during Mamata Banerjee‘s government, with serious accusations against TMC leaders. However, this time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Sandeshkhali assembly seat, with their candidate Sanat Sardar defeating TMC’s Jharna Sardar by a margin of 17,510 votes.
